On March 28, 2025, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the central region of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The disaster caused extensive damage across various areas, including the epicenter in Mandalay and the capital city of Naypyidaw. Over 3,800 people lost their lives, and approximately 5,100 people were injured. Myanmar has a long-standing relationship with the SEISA Group through initiatives such as medical aid via FGC, sports support, and the hosting of international students. Upon receiving news of the earthquake, FGC launched a fundraising appeal.
Thanks to the immense generosity of many individuals both within and outside the SEISA Group - including donation boxes at campuses and offices, and student council-led fundraising activities - we have received a significant amount of support. Combined with a contribution from FGC, a total of 300,000 yen has been donated to the international NGO, Save the Children.
Save the Children has over 100 years of history and experience in supporting children during humanitarian crises and has been active in Myanmar for many years. During the presentation of the donation, we visited Save the Children Japan and received the attached letter of appreciation. We also had the opportunity to hear detailed reports on their relief efforts in the affected areas from Ms. Akiko Takai, Executive Director cum Secretary General/CEO, and Ms. Miho Kinoshita, Community Engagement Team Manager.
In addition to providing essential supplies and medical aid, Save the Children is committed to the multi-faceted and continuous support of Myanmar's children including:
- Mental health and psychosocial support.
- Establishing "Child-Friendly Spaces (Kodomo no Hiroba)" where children can feel safe.
- Securing learning spaces and providing educational materials.
- Conducting teacher training and safety assessments of educational facilities.
The donated funds will be utilized for these ongoing local activities.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone for your support. FGC remains dedicated to providing as much assistance as possible for disasters occurring both domestically and abroad. We appreciate your continued understanding and support.
