On May 28th, as part of a program by the Embassy of Eritrea in Japan, an international understanding education class was held at Minato Ward Shirokane Primary School. A total of 117 third-grade students from four classes participated, Kesete Habtetsion Berhane, an Eritrean staff of FGC, introduced Eritrea to them.
Shirokane Primary School is located near the Eritrean Embassy, and the students pass by it every day on their way to school. As a result, many students were already familiar with Eritrea from seeing the embassy building with its flag displayed.
During the class, Kesete used a PowerPoint presentation he had prepared to introduce various aspects of Eritrean history, culture, language, and cuisine. The students listened intently and showed keen interest. During the question-and-answer session, many students actively asked questions that even adults might find challenging. We were impressed by the students’ keen curiosity.
Later, we received many letters of feedback from students who attended the class. They found the explanation of the meaning of the national flag and the fact that Eritrea experiences three different seasons within two hours, particularly interesting. Additionally, we received heartwarming comments such as “I would definitely like to visit there one day” and “I would like to try the real fruit and food there”.
We are very grateful for having had this valuable opportunity.
